Reading is one of my favourite pastimes. Books expand your vocabulary, knowledge and imagination. So today I’m going to be sharing some of my favourite children’s books so that maybe this will inspire you to read them!
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
This is a trilogy I would recommend to kids 11 years or over. They are dystopian novels about what the world may be like in the future. I love these books because they are amazing action-packed stories and the protagonist is a strong female showing girls can have power too, (if you like this topic, please check out the articles on international women’s day).
Harry Potter by JK Rowling
This is probably one of the most well-known kids’ series. I would recommend these books for kids 8 years and over. It’s a series including 7 books that many kids love to read and get attached to these fantasy stories.
Ruby Redfort by Lauren Child
This is a series with 6 books in it. I would recommend this series for ages 9+. The reason I love these books is that they are very funny and are about a child detective that is very reckless.
The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer
This again is a series with 6 books inside it. It is an amazing tale, including many famous fairytale characters, with new ones as well. I love these books because they include many fairytale characters and places I read about when I was little. I would recommend these books for kids 9 and over.
Nevermore by Jessica Townsend
These books are one of my favourite Australian kids books. They are currently still being developed with 3 of the stories already published. The next will be published around September this year. I would recommend these books for kids 9+.
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein
This book is the prequel to The Lord Of The Rings series (I recommend that as well but it is an adult book). I would recommend this book for kids who really enjoy reading. I love it because it is about a very quiet being who minds their own business, who goes on an incredible adventure.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Little Women is a very different story to the others I’ve listed. It’s a classic novel, but one of my favorites and I’d be happy to read it again. It’s a story set many years ago, about four sisters, and their lives. I would suggest this book to be read by 11 year olds.
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
Inkheart is a trilogy, about a man and his daughter who can read things from books. I would recommend these books for kids 10+. I love them because they are described very well and because I love the theme.
The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke)
This book is about 5 kids who ran away from home and joined a gang with a boy they call “The Thief Lord”. I would recommend this book for readers 9 years and older. I love this book because the characterization is AMAZING and you feel like you actually know the characters.
A Journey through Greek Myths and Legends by Marchella Ward
This last book is a bit different. It is not a chapter book and is just a story about an owl learning about Greek mythology. I loved this book because I’m very interested in Greek Myths and it’s a kids way of explaining them. I would recommend this book for any readers keen on Greek Myths.
Well, that’s all of the books. I hope this inspires you to keep on reading. Please note that none of these are in order of my favorites because I could not possibly do that.
I hope in this article helps you find a book you like. Keep on reading!
