The Kegworth Times has won the Upper-Primary School category at the Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) Front Page competition for the second year running!
If you are not familiar with ATOM, they are a ‘not for profit’ organisation (any money they make goes back into helping them to reach their goal). Their goal is to ‘empower students, teachers, parents and film enthusiasts to analyse and better understand the screen products we enjoy’.
This year has been tough for Press Gang – we had many weeks learning from home and then, when school did go back, our Press Gang superior, Cat Rodie, wasn’t able to visit the school due to Covid restrictions. But we didn’t let that derail our newspaper! Press Gang kept up their meetings with support from Miss Vaccaro and spoke to Cat via zoom!
Our ATOM entry focused on our experiences of home schooling, local news, an interview with soccer legend Chloe Logarzo and more!
We were really proud to be selected as finalists – the standard was really high with impressive entries from three other primary schools. When we found out that we won we all jumped in the air! It was a great feeling!
The Press Gang would like to thank Kegworth teacher Miss Vaccaro and parents Cat Rodie (Kegworth Times Supervisor) and Karen Wong (Art Director) for volunteering their time to our award-winning school newspaper.
