Why I Stopped Eating Meat

I became a vegetarian because I didn’t want to kill a harmless animal for my benefit. I also became a vegetarian because of my class-mates powerpoint presentation telling me that American cows create gases that contribute to pollution and global warming.   

I didn’t find it hard to give up meat, but there are some foods that I miss eating. 

I miss party pies, chicken burgers, chicken nuggets and steak. although these things are hard to resist if I’m around them i just tell myself not to kill animals.  

I have three favourite vegetarian meals; one is Tofu and Vegetable Pad See Ew which is a Thai noodle dish The other is Agedashi Tofu, a Japanese dish, which is tofu soaked in agedashi broth. Traditionally the dish includes fish flakes, but they can be left out. My other favourite is black-bean chilli, which can be served with tacos or rice. 

Even if you don’t think vegetarianism is for you, it is a good idea to cut down on meat. Meat Free Monday is a good way to start. The campaign encourages people to help slow climate change, conserve precious natural resources and improve their health by having at least one plant-based day each week.

My top tips for going vegetarian are to aat lots of food with iron in them –  if you don’t you could get sick! My second tip is you must like vegetables if you don’t you’ll have a really hard time. It is also really important to be open to trying new dishes, even if they sound weird or gross.
