Humans Of Kegworth: Tessa from The Sports Committee

#HumansofKegworth

How long have you been a Human of Kegworth?

Just over 3 years – my eldest started in K-Red in 2017.

Is Kegworth anything like the school that you went to when you were a kid?

I went to two different primary schools and Kegworth is very similar to the first one I went to, Muritai School (in NZ). it’s a similar size, has the same community focus and Muritai opened  just 10 years after Kegworth.

You head up the new sports committee- what’s it all about?

It’s about promoting participation in sport and wellbeing activities within our Kegworth community.  There are numerous studies showing the importance of sport/physical activity throughout life and it all starts with building a strong foundation in the younger years and ensuring it’s fun and inclusive. Unfortunately about 70% of children drop out of organised sport by the time they hit high school so we want to foster a positive relationship so more are incline to keep going with it.

What do you like about volunteering at Kegworth?

There is an awesome group of parents who all pull together to get some amazing things done. Its really fulfilling to see the impact  of various fundraisers or initiatives and I love that there’s lots of aspects of volunteering that I can get my kids involved with.
