I said ‘no’ to free plastic toys. Here’s how you can too

Olivia Wong (Year 1)

Do you have Coles Little Shop Minis or Lion King Ooshies at home? This month, supermarkets are giving them away for free.

I have lots of these free plastic toys at home. But I don’t play with them. I don’t need them! I have other toys to play with.

But there is a big problem. These little free plastic toys can’t be recycled. They end up in the landfill and our oceans. This makes me sad.

It also costs a lot. You get one free toy if you spend $30. Your parents need to spend more than $900 to get one full set. That’s a lot of money.

You can spend that money on doing something fun. Why not buy a bike for everyone in your family, or go on a nice holiday? A holiday is much better than having thirty bits of plastic!

This month, join me to say ‘No’ to free plastic toys. It is hard at the start because they are so cute. If you find it hard to say ‘no’, it is OK to shop somewhere else. Your parents will be happy that you want to take care of the earth. Together, we can definitely save our planet from plastic!
